A Relaxed & Rustic DIY Wedding at Jack’s Barn
SPEER IMAGESI’ve often said how I love a barn wedding! But my heart flutters all the faster when that barn wedding features chandeliers galore, inspiring DIY details and a mouthwatering alternative to the traditional favour! 10 years after they met at a high school house party, AJ & Kristin tied the knot in a rustic affair that whilst laid back none-the-less overflowed with elegance and romance.
Bride Kristin kindly shared their story with me…. “I knew I always wanted a rustic laid back barn wedding. When we came across Jack’s Barn we knew right away it was the perfect venue. It was the right amount of rustic, antiques, and DIY mix.
Every single detail was a DIY and handmade. To the hand painted mason jars to the hand picked lanterns. We picked our own frames and hand select pictures of AJ and I. We also had someone hand write all of the chalkboards. Because the barn was DIY, we took a lot of time in the details.”
“AJ wore a cobalt blue, skinny fit suit. With light brown wing tipped shoes with some fun colored socks. They also wore brown leather suspenders and champagne bow ties.”
“My bouquet was a lush and loose hand-tied bouquet made of pink roses, peach garden roses, white ranunculus, bright pink gerber daisies, peach spray roses, peach stock, light pink astilbe, lavender limonium, dusty miller and greens. Our florist was Barbara Bell Design.“
“I wore lace, cap sleeve, peachy/pink dress from the Snow collection by Annasul Y. I got it from L’Fay Bridal in Chatham, NJ. I absolute loved my dress! I felt skinny and beautiful in it, just like every bride should feel.
My grandma passed away a few months before the wedding. I wanted to incorporate something special for her in the wedding. I decided to take a piece from her blue shirt. I cut it into a heart shape and sowed it to the bottom of my dress. So Grandma was my something blue.”

We didn’t have cake, we went with mini pies and a cobbler station.
Pearls of wedding wisdom…..
“Elope and have a huge party after! 🙂 And if that’s not an option, just try not to fight over the little stuff. It’s just one day :)”
“Our favours were an assortment of pies that our guests could take away to enjoy the next day (if they could resist them for that long) The flavours were Apple, blueberry crumble, and cherry pie. Peach and apple cobbler.”
Tell us a little bit about your photographer…
“The most important thing for us to plan was finding the perfect photographer to capture every moment. And we did! We found Nick Speer through the venue. He was a pleasure to work with, so kind and easy going. Nick made us feel at ease through the day. He was all about what we wanted and did it in a professional way. Nick has such an artist eye for photography, every picture capture the moment and feeling. When I look back at our pictures, I feel like I’m reliving our day.”
I love AJ & Kristen’s laid back celebration, and especially those yummy looking favours! A huge thankyou to the happy couple for allowing me to share their day with you, and of course their photographer Nick of Speer Images for capturing it all so perfectly.
