A Romantic & Relaxed Vintage Wedding in Historic Slovenia

Katja & Simon Photography

Jasna & Matic’s beautiful wedding took my breath away with its romance and historical venues. For such an elegant affair though it has a relaxed calm that shows in every photo. And with not one but two ceremonies, four wedding cakes, a sparkler exit and the most charming candlelit reception, there are plenty of inspiring details – so be sure to have that pinning finger ready!

Here are the happy couple to tell us all about it…. “We knew, that we wanted a simple, family touched, relaxed wedding. We wanted this romantic-chic-elegant style. Location – our first choice was Tuscany, but because there was too much in terms of organization and everything, we decided to change plans and chose the Slovenian Tuscany – Štanjel.

Matic had a blue coloured suit, with gold stripes and I wanted a lacy simple dress, and blue Manolo Blahnik shoes. So our color palette was a combination of royal blue and gold, with pops of red. From invitations, to seats, menu, everything.

When it came to planning our wedding we never panicked. Everything was easy going, we didn’t let anything get complicated, or become overwhelmed (or a ‘bridezilla’). We were doing and choosing everything together, so that was great! We also knew, that we didn’t want to have traditional games, dances and similar stuff. Just a lovely day, spending time together with loved ones, good music and a party!”

THE DRESS

“So, my dress was made by Croatian duo Envy. The bodice was made of lace, really ‘old’ look, and the skirt was long, simple …I had long sleeves, with really interesting details. And, from when I was little girl and saw Carrie in Sex and the City, I always wanted to get married in blue Manolo Blahnik shoes.

And Matic’s suit was from Ted Baker, which we bought in London. Dark blue with  gold stripes. Matic had an antique Raketa watch from Moscow.”

FAVOURITE MOMENT

“So, my favourite part was, when my dad took my hand outside the church, the singers start to sing (vocal , no instruments) “You Raise Me Up”, the door opened, and we went down the altar. All I saw, was Matic. I started to shake, I just couldn’t take it all in, that this was happening. Also Matic said his favourite moment was, when the doors opened and he first saw me in the church.”

THE FLOWERS

“So our florist was also our organiser Karin (AK wedding). We connected immediately. We wanted this rustic, not too perfect shapes of bouquets, just more natural. I wanted a lot of eucalyptus and almost no roses! Colours were from really light pink, to bordeaux red, green and a touch of blue. Also I wanted peonys. But overall, the flowers were very rich and colourful, no symmetrical.”

WORDS OF WEDDING WISDOM

“Don’t panic, just keep your nerves low, everything will be perfect at the end. And listen to your heart, not what everybody else think.”

THE CAKE

“We had 4 cakes. The biggest was strawberry-cinnamon-chocolate, then the second was banana-hazelnut, and third was lime-blueberryies. The fourth was vegan, because I am vegan, it was mango-pineapple. They were made by Petra Sodja, best one in Slovenia!”

THE PHOTOGRAPHY

“Katja&Simon are the greatest!! The sweetest, best photographers! They know how, when to catch the perfect moments. We are happiest that they are our friends and very blessed and honoured, that they accept to photo our special day.”
