‘Retro Love’ – Tropical Wedding Inspiration

It’s amazing how a little imagination can create a tropical paradise in a patch of cleared land in California! A hint of luxe and elegance, paired with a lovely twist of boho and lashings of tropical florals sets the idyllic scene for the most perfect outdoor wedding inspiration for Summer. With the pièce de resistance being the funky Volkswagen pick-up truck!

Here’s some insight into the design and styling by event planner, Jania, from Code Peach Events“The inspiration behind the design of this shoot began with a VW pick-up truck. We wanted to create something together using the truck while incorporating passion and glamour. Our vision quickly evolved to include a retro bohemian vibe, hence the theme retro love.  We desire to impact a life in a positive way each time we conduct a styled shoot. So, we found a couple that was recently engaged. We felt the opened field would be the perfect opportunity to showcase the color palette for the shoot as well as our retro bohemian desires.

The floral design inspiration was boho luxury. We wanted to bring some luxury feel to the bohemian theme with lush florals and the gilded leaves as well to incorporate the Pantone color of the year, coral. All of the florals by Figure Eight Events were designed to be foam free as a more sustainable way to design floral arrangements.

To achieve the retro color scheme, we incorporated turquoise, mint, and peach with the coral and gilded leaf. The large queen protea used in the bridal bouquet provided a lush bohemian focus for the bouquet. The foam free flower wall in the back of the truck was filled with lush greenery and hints of gilded leaves to once again bring a luxurious element to our retro bohemian theme. As a specialty element, foraged dried palms were incorporated in the floral design at the top of the truck as an homage to the dried flower trend that is taking over the world.

The wedding cake was topped with a fresh flower arranged by the florist. The top tier was a rose luster hue and edible square glitter. Under this tier was a gold tier and Maria used non-toxic gold and vodka to paint it. The middle tier had a modern marbled technique with colors such as coral, pinks and peach, and white with a hint of gold. The bottom tier is covered with a sky blue/turquoise and embellished with ruffled fondant flower, in which Maria used a marbled/crackle technique as well. Overall, the cake design was retro inspired by using the ruffles and glam feel, but still maintained a semi-modern look.

When choosing attire we wanted our models to stand out, and to showcase a little movement with the gown. We immediately knew the gown we selected was something special – it had glamour and bling! And the jewelled cape was such a beautiful accent to the dress. For our groom, we felt that something with a bold color would be great for him and burgundy seemed like a perfect fit.

Tablescape elements include a refinished table by Hola Moderna. We used a vintage round table paired with soft pink tufted sweetheart chairs. The pops of color come through in the table settings themselves, with the vintage glassware in lavender, turquoise and floral plates and gold cutlery.
