Top 11 Bridal Trends for 2017

Having shared some of my favourite, and most vintage infused, of the latest bridal collections (you can see them here, herehere and here if you missed them), and the Top Ten Wedding Trends for 2017, I thought it was time to unveil the Top 11 most beautiful (and wearable!) Bridal Trends for the coming year. From the very top wedding dress designers from around the world, these are the trends, looks and design details that will be seen in bridal boutiques, and gracing brides waltzing down the aisle, everywhere! So, if you’re getting married this year, or in 2018, grab a seat and have your pinning finger at the ready, because one of these might be THE one for you…..

Top 11 Bridal Trends for 2017

1. Floral Appliqués

The 2017 runways were brimming with floral embellishments of the 3D variety, lending structure to romantic styles, and adding interest to simpler silhouettes. This trend is one of my favourites, and perfect for brides looking to make a statement but shy of the more unconventional looks. Instead enchant your groom and guests alike in an elaborately embellished dress……

2. Hi Low Hemlines

Tea length will always be a timeless choice for the vintage loving bride! But it can be hard to pull off if you’re not prim and petite or long and lean. But there’s no such problem with this trend that offers a flattering full-length skirt feel with a contemporary twist – that will not only showcase those designer bridal shoes perfectly, but also makes dancing all night that much more easier!

3. Sheer Elegance

For the bold bride making to look a style statement (and not get married in church), elegant transparent dresses offer a glimpse of flesh beneath intricate lace details, floral embellishments and delicate tulle. Undeniably fashion-forward, done right this is a sophisticated look but not one for the faint hearted…..

4. Breathtaking Trains

Trains are big for 2017 , and I don’t just mean in terms of trend. Oh no, we’re not only talking chic sweeping trains, but cathedral length trains fit for royalty! This is the look for those brides wanting to let their inner princess loose, and sashay down the aisle in style. Just remember to choose a design with a removable train if you wish to spend the evening on the dance floor.

5. Off Shoulder Sleeves

Be ready to bare those shoulders ladies! Because thanks to the ever stylish Mrs Clooney the trend that started in 2014 is only growing in popularity – especially since it trickled down to the ready-to-wear runways. Whether you go gossamer light for a romantic summer wedding, long and billowy for a sophisticated boho wedding, structured satin for a formal celebration or lace for a timeless elegant affair, this is a look that never fails to wow…

6. Pastel Hues

I have long loved when brides take a bit of a chance with color, and this season it is a trend for the romantic bride as well as the bold bride, with pastels the prettiest way to break with tradition. The 2017 runways were awash with the softest shades of pink and blue inspired by Pantone’s Serenity & Rose Quartz…..

7. Victorian Inspired Necklines

In contrast to the plunging v-necks of recent years, demure Victorian inspired necklines ruled the runways for 2017. Using delicate and textural laces creating an illusion yoke they are just as beautiful and dramatic as their low counterparts!

8. Understated & Chic

Proving again that simplicity is the ultimate sophistication, designers offered beautifully cut and stylishly structured alternatives to the fussy lace and floral appliques this season in silk, satin and crepe. This is a truly timeless look for the minimalist modern bride who loves tailoring over design details…..

9. Bustier Bodices

Another trend linked to the Victorian revival is the boned bustier style bodice, and I for one love it. Silhouette forming and figure accentuating, they create a look that is just the right side of sexy for a wedding day – and show off décolletage to perfection! Pair with a chic updo and drop earrings to complete the look.

10. Capes

It seems these classy coverups are the accessory of choice for 2017, and why not? As well as adding an extra hint of drama to your look, creating a unique silhouette and offering a much needed layer of warmth for Autumn and Winter brides (who don’t want to wear long sleeved dresses), this trend is also an easy (and budget friendly) way of enjoying two looks with one dress – wear your cape for your ceremony, and whisk it away to for your reception!

11. Floral Prints

I originally set out to compile a Top 10 but couldn’t resist these fabulous floral gowns! Oh so feminine and just beyond perfect for a Spring or Summer wedding, these floral delights really are the most romantic choice for the fashion forward bride. Just remember to keep your accessories to a minimum and allow your dress to shine….. oh and if you love this look you might want to check out this roundup of 20 floral wedding dresses!
