Southern Summer – Yellow & Blue Wedding Inspiration with a Hint of Southern Charm
Today I thought we would celebrate the start of Summer (for most of you at least – it has been frrrreezing here in Hawkes Bay today) with a bright and balmy inspiration board in a palette that features not one but two of Pantone’s Top 10 Colours for 2016 – Buttercup Yellow and Snorkel Blue…..
Buttercup is such a beautiful shade of yellow, bright and happy it just screams summer! To ground it, and stop it from being too bright, I added some summery shades of blue to this yummy colour palette; and infused it with some southern charm with a Bourbon bar, a refreshing twist on lemonade that will really pack a punch and some elegant style statements! Keep this colour palette chic with pops of blue against the soft and bold shades of yellow, but don’t be afraid to add a little fun with polka dots or stripes to up the preppy feel – how cute would your gals look in blue polka dot dresses like this?
I imagine a laid back outdoor wedding, perhaps a backyard or the grounds of a historical house, would be perfect for this palette. Of course relaxed doesn’t have to mean rustic, so add elegance with your decor – be it your tablescapes or a lounge for your guests to sip their bourbon in, give it a hint of luxury with velvet, metallics and plenty of fresh blooms (roses, ranunculus and Craspedia, or billy balls, come in the perfect shades of yellow)

Give your groom and his groomsmen some freedom to let their inner style mavens shine through with a patterned suit (think checks, stripes or houndstooth), or for something a little more subtle add pattern with their bow ties and pocket squares. Add a crisp white shirt, short sleeve if its going to be hot, and a boutonniere in contrasting white or pale yellow and you have the perfect look for a Summer celebration.
And for your gals (if polka dots aren’t for you) stick to the shades of blue (it is so much more flattering than yellow) and allow them to choose – light or dark; long or short; lace, chiffon, satin or crepe – mismatched is a must for this laid back Summer, southern-style infused, wedding.
