Delectably Deco Johanna Johnson’s Luxor Collection
It’s impossible to keep my adoration of everything that is Johanna Johnson secret – you don’t have to go far on CVB before you find a post featuring one of her real brides, veils, accessories or decadent bridal gowns, or inspired by them! I have long loved the simplicity, grace and style of her timelessly elegant and sophisticated, old Hollywood inspired bridal gowns, however she quite simply stole my heart when I saw her Luxor Bridal Collection. In my humble opinion, with this collection Johanna Johnson achieved bridal perfection, there was no possible way these gowns could be any more breathtakingly beautiful or glamorous… or so I thought…
How wrong could I be??
Johanna Johnson was honoured at this year’s MBFWA by being selected for the Mercedes-Benz Presents Show (MBPS) – the show that each season highlights a designer who showcases extreme talent and dedication to their creations, through their use of exquisite materials, unique and innovative design, and style. This is the first year the MBPS has featured in Australian Fashion week, and I can’t think of a more deserving (or breathtaking) designer to be chosen for the showcase….. anyone who might not have agreed before the show surely must have after!
The shimmery golden carpet set the scene and I can just imagine the gasps, “oohs” and “aahs” from the audience as models sashayed down the runway in luxurious gowns of liquid gold, silver, midnight blue and inky black satin, extravagantly adorned with feathers and the most elaborate beading. With bias cuts and asymmetrical patterns the show truly was the epitome of dazzling Art Deco decadence and so Gatsby-esque. Oh to have been sat on the front row at this show!
Interspersing floor-sweeping gowns with the cutest, flapper inspired tea dresses Johanna Johnson showed she is the queen of Jazz Age styling!
The craftsmanship of this collection is extraordinary, trains are home to the most intricate beading, while sequins are the foundation for entire frocks. But almost as lust-worthy as the gowns is the head-wear! Without a veil in sight, Johanna Johnson simultaneously channeled the quintessential flappergirl and Cleopatra (the collection is the Luxor after all!) with the most exquisite caps, elaborate headbands and ornate hairpieces…..
Who needs veils when you could wear one of these statement pieces?

I have long loved to gush about everything Johanna Johnson, in fact if I ever win the lottery a JJ dress, with matching headpiece, for every day of the week will be my first purchase!
This show was a true ode to glamorous dressing – which is your favourite? Have you been tempted to go with a colour rich gown for your wedding dress? I would love to see the wedding of any bride that chooses to wear a Johanna Johnson Luxor gown!
