The Chic Vintage Winter Bride’s Dilemma – Feather or Fur?

There are many reasons I wished to be a Winter bride, and the fabulous accessories was definitely one of them. For nothing screams vintage glamour quite like a chic coverup! Be it a stole, shawl, shrug, collar, cape, capelet or coat, they always evoke memories of Old Hollywood; and our favourite sirens sashaying across the screen, coverup draped over one shoulder as they languidly drawl “daaaarling” to the dapper gent, for whom they are pouring a drink, over the other. Of course the question isn’t whether to go with one of these fabulous adornments, oh no, you simply must wear something to keep you snug if you’re planning a Winter wedding! There can be nothing more miserable than being cold on your wedding day, plus of course, chattering teeth and goosebumps NEVER look attractive in photos. The question is whether you go for feather or fur?…..

The Chic Vintage Winter Bride's Dilemma - Feather or Fur?

This is a dilemma I remember all too well. In the end I decided feather, it felt a little more delicate, which was appropriate for my Jenny Packham dress, and even more glamorous for our New Year’s Eve Wedding (yep, it will be our 4th anniversary soon!) But to help with your decision, I have scoured Pinterest and the wedding blogging world for the most beautiful brides rocking both, starting with…..

Fur Coverups

Perfect for the bride expecting plummeting temperatures, fur coverups tend to be heavier and longer, so are sure to keep you cosy however cold it gets. They tend to come in the richest neutral shades form black and coffee brown to caramel and cream, ideal if you’re planning a more rustic celebration, although, these colours look equally glam for a glitzy city chic affair.

Of course I’m not talking real fur, there are so many fantastic faux options, there really is no need to go down the cruelty road any longer. Plus going faux means you can also find furs in the prettiest of pastels if neutrals aren’t your thing. Take a look at these I found…..

Feather Coverups

Feathers and flappers go together like F. Scott & Zelda! So, if you’re planning a speak easy inspired shindig or a do with art deco details go feather all the way. More delicate than fur but no less opulent, feather coverups are fabulously dramatic. Whilst you don’t tend to get the longer jackets or coats, a feather stole, shawl or shrug is surprisingly snug…and not to mention soft! They’re also perfect for the bride wanting a more boho than vintage vibe.

So, what do you think, are you a feather or fur bride? If I did it all again, I would have to go fur, but only because I went feather the first time!
