Art Deco Infused Blue Velvet Wedding Inspiration at ‘At The Top’
Photography by Nola FontanezToday’s wedding inspiration shoot brings us a little luxurious time travelling! Rich shades of blue and berry contrast with soft corals and peachy tones, in this beautifully romantic take on Gatsby glam with a modern twist – we’re talking ghost chairs, glass candlesticks and a fairytale lace wedding dress…..
Here are a few words from Megan of Sweet Peach Planning about the team’s inspiration behind this vision of Art Deco glamour…. “The design for our shoot was based around soft, luxurious blue velvet that created a rich and romantic atmosphere. We found inspiration in the dark colors of berries and figs so the blues were contrasted with deep tones of purples and mauve.
The flowers were muted in comparison to this rich color palette. They fell in a midrange from cream, to peach, to mauve, and created a bridge between the light, dreamy blues and the deeper pops of earth tones. We incorporated some fun textures with fluffy carnations contrasting the waxing anthuriums and butterfly ranunculus.
The altar was a sleek glass and gold rimmed bookcase. On each layer we sprinkled assorted bud vases; mix and match clear bottles filled with big blooms and touches of greenery. A variety of pillar candles also decorated the shelves as well as down the aisle. We used ghost chairs to match the pillars and add a modern twist to the art deco space.
Each place setting had a fresh fig and tart blueberries were scattered throughout the table. The gold vase of the centerpiece crowned the stack of vintage books. Flowers and greenery filled with roses, tulips, butterfly ranunculus, silver dollar eucalyptus, spirea, viburnum berries, carnations, daisies, snapdragons stretched out over the table. As a finishing touch, the chandelier above was adorned with Italian ruscus.
Our wedding cake was a modern art deco design to compliment the venue and to also captured the essence of the blue crushed velvet that is featured throughout our shoot. To do this, we incorporated a mix of hard and soft traditional art deco designs but kept these design elements monochromatic for a clean and modern feel, and of course, to make the blue velvet middle tier the focal point of the design.
We felt the velvet accents lent better to a winter or fall wedding so a romantic long sleeve wedding dress for our bride just made sense.”
Aren’t those colours stunning?? I am so grateful to all of the top-notch vendors who tirelessly worked to pull off this beauty of a shoot, but especially to Nola Fontanez for capturing all the details so perfectly. Now if this has you dreaming of an Art Deco wedding of your own, you might want to take a look at this prohibition inspired shoot with a contemporary twist or this floral filled aristocratic beauty (all the way from Russia), and this oh-so-elegant Gatsby inspired affair in a palette of black and gold.
