A Classic Southern Wedding with a Family Heirloom Wedding Dress

Anna & Josh’s wedding is a typical southern affair – full of classical elegance, magnificent venues and whiskey (of course). What I love most about their day though is Anna’s decision to wear the same wedding dress worn by her mother and grandmother! Much as the flowers and bridesmaids dresses are gorgeous, and of course the men all look dapper in their tuxes, it is meaningful details like this that really make their day special…..

Classic Southern Wedding with 2 Wedding Dresses

Let me hand you over to lovely bride Anna….. “Both Josh and I wanted a beautiful church wedding and for our reception to be classic elegant southern style. We both wanted a summer wedding so colors were based off of the time of year, the wedding being in the evening therefore, more formal and my bouquet.

The most important things for us when planning for our wedding besides the actual marriage preparation classes were a good live band with great music, a live wedding painter and an amazing photographer. We were very fortunate that we were able to have all of those things.”

THE DRESS

“My wedding dress is a family heirloom. Both my mother and grandmother wore the dress on their wedding day. It was very important and sentimental to me that I also wear the dress.

It was also very beautiful to see my Dad tear up when he came to escort me down the aisle knowing the last time he had seen the dress was the day he married my mother. The same goes for my grandfather when he married my grandmother and walked my mother down the aisle. A lot of history and I was very happy to be part of the special tradition. I changed into a reception dress following the ceremony.”

“Josh very much the classic southern gentleman chose to wear a black tuxedo.”

THE FLOWERS

“Our florist, Kelsy of Kelsy Marie Design, was absolutely amazing. She did a wonderful job incorporating the color schemes and look we wanted and also remaining within the budget we had set. The bridal bouquet included white roses, blush roses, ranunculus, lisianthus, and other white floral accents, along with eucalyptus, dusty miller and vines.”

WORDS OF WEDDING WISDOM

“Planning your wedding at times can be very stressful it is easy to get caught up in the details. My advice is to remember the big picture and the whole reason you are having a wedding in the first place. Also on your actual wedding day make sure you take time to really soak in the moment.”

THE FAVORS

“I come from an Italian family so our wedding favors were Italian Jordan Almonds. There were 5 almonds in each bag which symbolized: health, wealth, happiness, family and a long life.”

THE CAKE

“My younger sister has a bakery, Rosie’s Custom Cakes and Cookies, she was wonderful during the wedding process and helped our perfect vision of a cake come true. We had a tiered white wedding cake with buttercream frosting. It was delicious!”

THE PHOTOGRAPHY

“Our photographer, Erin Lee Allender, was one of the best parts of our wedding and the whole process! She was absolutely phenomenal to work with and had the most amazing work. Both my twin sister and I used her for our engagement photos and weddings and were beyond impressed! Erin is fun, professional, easy going and very organized. It was an absolute dream to work with her! I would highly recommend her to anyone especially if you value high quality authentic photos that capture the moment perfectly!”
