Rustic Vintage Weddings
A Rustic-Vintage Wedding with Black Tie Elegance
LINDSAY HACKNEY PHOTOGRAPHYToday’s wedding takes place at the wonderful Hidden Pond in Kennebunkport, Maine; with an outdoor ceremony in the woods and a refined marquee reception. I am utterly head over heels in love with the elegant style of the happy couple Annie & Hayden (let’s just say, you can tell these two work in fashion!), their black tie, formal attire adds a surprising hint of glamour to their otherwise rustic celebration…… Oh and did I mention their love story could have come straight from the script of a Hollywood romance??
Bride Annie, shared their love story with us…. “I met Hayden on the first day of my sophomore year of college. A few weeks later, he gave me a note that said, “Will you be my girlfriend?” with check boxes for “Yes,” “No,” and “Maybe” below. The answer was easy. After 3 years of long distance, 5 cities, 2 countries, and 6 apartments, we decided it was about time we got married! Hayden proposed on our 7-year anniversary at our favorite restaurant, Fish & Game, in Hudson, New York. He couldn’t wait until dinner to propose, so he popped the question at the restaurant bar. Once again, I said, “Yes.”
Annie and her family have been holidaying in Kennebunkport every summer for years, with Hayden of course joining them after they met. So when the two of them got engaged, they thought it would be the perfect place to celebrate! They planned to visit numerous potential venues, but knew they had found the one as soon as they saw Hidden Pond – and I don’t blame them! It really is the most beautiful location with grounds and buildings perfect for every part of the day….
“I worked with Rebecca Schoneveld to design a wedding dress that pulled together the woodsy yet elegant vibes.”
“Hayden had his tailor, Nita Fashions, create a burgundy tux jacket that worked perfectly with the touches of deep red we incorporated throughout the wedding.”
“We really wanted to keep our ceremony short and sweet, so we worked closely with our officiant, Julie Draper, to focus on just the most important things to us. She went above and beyond to deliver such a touching, personal, and memorable ceremony. She had everyone laughing and crying, and our guests still come up to us to tell us how special it was.”
“We had dinner in a tent behind the barn, under the stars with all the people who matter most to us. As we ate, our family and friends gave beautiful toasts. Our guests still tell us how the blend of the tall trees, formal gowns and tuxes, twinkling candle light, and stunning flowers made the whole night feel magical.”
Words of wedding wisdom from the bride…
“Enjoy the process (as much as you can!) and do what feels right to you. Have fun working together as a team, and don’t forget to take time out for yourselves during the planning process to unwind and think about something other than planning. It all goes by faster than you think!”
“Hayden is well known for his epic dancing skills, so our guests were looking forward to it all night (and probably, year). He did not disappoint, and I just tried to keep up. We spent several weeks building our perfect playlist with our DJ, so it was a blast to hear our favorite songs play and dance the night away with our family and closest friends. The dance floor was packed all night long!”
As always heartfelt congratulations and a big thankyou to the happy couple, Annie & Hayden, for allowing me to share their day and to their photographer Lindsay Hackney for capturing every spectacular moment so perfectly!
