Old Hollywood Glamour and Exquisite Embellishment from Johanna Johnson
Coming across this stunning Vintage Inspired Noosa Wedding ……
……on the fabulous Polka Dot Bride reminded me about the Johanna Johnson post I promised in my sneak peek last month! But first I have to share these stunning snaps…….
Photos by Marcus Bell of Studio Impressions
Belinda made such a beautiful bride, the Johanna Johnson dress and headdress combo is breathtaking – oh and those glamorous gold shoes are just too gorgeous! Whilst photographer Marcus has obviously really captured the intimacy and emotion of the day!
The same dress was chosen by this vintage inspired bride (from Ruffled)……
Chic perfection! And the vintage style photography by Trish from Tealily Photography is lush!
The dress both Marissa and Belinda is wearing is very similar to The Susannah from Johanna Johnson‘s Current Collectives collection…..
(with the matching hand beaded headdress from the Trousseau Collection)
The dress features breathtakingly delicate, French hand-beaded, gold lace and intricately capped sleeves.
Johanna Johnson is a New Zealand bridal wear designer, based in Australia, with a penchant for the opulence of the 1930s, her designs channelling old school glamour, capture perfectly the glamour and decadence of the Art Deco era. Every dress is hand crafted in Sydney, Australia, using the finest fabrics and embellishments available. These dresses are timeless and can be treasured and passed down to generations to come.
Today her designs are not only chosen by brides around the world but also some of the classiest red carpet regulars such as a personal fave of mine, vintage vamp, Christina Hendericks, seen here with her shapely curves slipped seductively into a gorgeous Johanna Johnson gown for the 2011 Emmy’s……
(in fact since the Emmy’s Johanna Johnson has seen unprecedented demand, leading to a temporary Online Store)
Choosing my favourite dress of Johanna Johnson‘s current collections is simply impossible! So I am going to share a few highlights……
The ‘original’ Johanna Johnson gown The Caroline is an a line design made of heavy ivory silk satin with a sexy (but sophisticated) front split and embellishment detail on the shoulders.
The Lucy, screams 1930s hollywood siren, and features a feminine lace bust, lace capped sleeves and beautiful old world lace detailing on the back. The matching French lace and silk tulle veil is just SO deco-licious!
The Isolde is a one shouldered goddess gown – it’s just GORGEOUS, made of heavy ivory silk satin, with looped sleeves.
The Lola is an opulent 1920s inspired gown with a bloused bodice and fitted waist, decorated with french hand beaded embellishment – divine!
Soft and whimsical, The Garden, is an ethereal ivory georgette mist floating over a separate silk satin gown – and the signature Johanna Johnson Garland design Swarovski embellishment.
The Vivienne, reminiscent of screen legend, and one of my favourite actresses, Vivien Leigh (or Scarlett O’Hara as she will always be to me), features a sweetheart neckline, a corset bodice and swarovski crystal embellishment in the JJ signature Garland design.
The Vintage gown with its full flowing fishtail skirt, is the epitome of feminine luxury!
And The Vintage veil is simply to die for!
A silver screen dream The Cossette is a fully corsetted gown with an expertly pleated skirt.
Johanna Johnson’s 2011 Collection The Templar still screams The Golden Age of Hollywood, however her inspiration for the collection came from a time long before film – the fairytale medieval period.
“TEMPLAR was inspired by the idea of being covered in precious gems and fine fabrics from far-off lands. I was looking at Byzantine and early medieval jewellery and just loved the opulence of the designs. ”
What I really love about this collection is the exquisite detail Johanna Johnson has put into the back of the dress – remembering, it’s what guests spend much of the ceremony looking at!
I have already featured The Florence once on my blog (on my sneak peek of things to come) and I doubt this will be the last time I feature it – it is by far the most unique design from her collection, its just so…. dreamily bohemian!
The Satine in Latte is a heavenly heavy satin gown with hand beaded Parisian lace embellishment.
The Ormand is a heavy silk a-line gown with hand-worked beaded bust line, necklace and back detail……
I promised myself I would limit my favourites to 10 but I just couldn’t – they are all too beautiful!
And as if designing all these gorgeous gowns isn’t enough to keep even the most talented of designers busy, Johanna Johnson has also designed a fabulous range of accessories including veils, headdresses and cuffs.
I’ve already featured this vintage Juliet Cap style veil on my Juliet Cap Veil Revival post but I can’t resist showing it off again……
……made of Parisian cotton lace and French silk
There’s the equally lovely Ophelia ……
A sumptuous floor length, French hand beaded lace silk tulle veil which Features tiny glass beads incredibly woven onto silver thread.
If glitz and glamour is more your style, how about the timeless styling of Harlow that can be worn as a statement hairpiece, or as a jewelled wrist corsage.
Or the striking Garland crown……
(shown here with an additional Garland single piece)
And the Cosmo cap makes me weak at the knees, with its deco styling !
Ahhh, tonight my dreams will be sweet – filled with Old Hollywood glamour and exquisite embellishment!
