For the middle of summer it is distinctly overcast and ever so slightly chilly here today, not at all what I have come to expect and love of a beautiful Hawke’s Bay summer. Luckily I have just the perfect thing to brighten this dreary Monday! I have been positively bursting to share this decadent art deco inspired wedding from Stewart Leishman with you ever since I laid eyes on it and today is the day! It is quite simply my idea of absolute heaven and makes me quite giddy with delight……

Bride Jodie is simply stunning in her bespoke wedding dress and flapper inspired headpiece, indeed she is stylish enough to make even Daisy Buchanan a little green with envy! Oh and those pretty plum and lavender bridesmaids dresses and the fabulous contrasting bouquets……and just wait until you see the sweet reception decor of vintage cameras borrowed from Jodie’s dad! Jodie and Chris were married at the historic Rippon Lea Estate, Elsternwick exactly 8 years to the day after meeting each other – now, how is that for romantic?? Their beautiful day was traditional and formal, in a style inspired by the decadence and fashion of the art deco era (my favourite, in case you didn’t know) There is no better person to tell you all about their day than the lovely bride herself, so over to Jodie….

“We wanted a wedding that gave our guests a chance to really dress up and experience a night of glamour but one that would remain warm, inviting and fun and we believe we managed to incorporate all of this into our amazing day/night! “ – I think you’re right Jodie!

“I was told that the day and night would pass by very quickly, so it was really important to take a moment to take in all the delights of our wedding. I purposely walked around to see all of the creative styling and touches, took a moment to reflect on the photos of my parents, in-laws and grandparents on their wedding days and of course smiled from ear to ear checking out our champagne tower and amazing wedding cake! 

By far my favourite moment of the day though would have to be walking down the aisle to my handsome man. We had chosen to not see each other for 2 weeks leading up to the wedding so it was really special and emotional to see each other again.” 

“I must also mention that I loved seeing my creative styling ideas come to life with the help of the talented team at Intique & Co, it was all a dream come true!”

So, after creating such a wonderful and unique wedding, what is Jodie’s advice to brides-to-be in the midst of planning?

“Make sure your wedding is a reflection of both of your personalities. Stick to your budget, research suppliers and don’t be afraid to ask if the quoted price is the very best they can offer you. Remember it is your wedding day, so try not to let parents or friends sway you from having the day you’ve always dreamed of. Finally, be organised so that any unnecessary stresses are avoided. “
