The Finest Vintage Inspired Bridal Gowns from NYC Bridal Fashion Week
If a vintage wedding dress, like the fabulous frocks I featured in Exquisite Vintage Bridal Gowns from The Frock, isn’t for you but you still want a vintage inspired wedding or theme, then despair not! Many of the oh so talented designers of today have been drawing inspiration from eras gone by for their recent collections and 2012 is no exception.
Jenny Packham 1930s inspired halterneck dress
NYC Bridal Fashion week, last week, saw the top designers showcasing their latest collection with so many, clearly vintage inspired, absolutely breathtaking gowns! I have picked a few of my favourites (all from designers stocked and available in Australia and New Zealand) inspired by fashion from the 1920s through to the 1970s……
1920s
The Golden era of Art Deco, the flapper and silent silver screen sirens – knee length or floor length, think feathers, rich fabrics and embellishments……
Marchesa’s knee length, cap sleeve feather skirted Flapper dress
Jenny Packham Ada – a satin, v-neck, floor length, sheath dress
Or for a more modern feel but still with an Art Deco feel, this gorgeous gown with geometric bodice and decadent net skirt……

1930s
Saw the return of sleek, figure hugging, floor sweeping gowns and halternecks were all the vogue……

1940s
The rebirth of the silhouette with emphasised shoulders and waists……
Marchesa’s floor length, bias cut sheath dress with shoulder adornments
Pronovias glamourous long sleeved gown (it screams hollywood siren)
Badgley Mischka Calista Gown with exaggerated ruffle at neckline (a little reminiscent of the famour Letty Lynton Dress)

Glamorous, fun and flirty – whether tea length or floor length think nipped in waists and full a line skirts!
Jenny Packham’s Nympth – a tea length a line dress with boat neck and belt
Amsale’s Lynette – a boat neck with floor length net skirt
Jim Hjelm design 8203 – a v-neck a-line gown
Or how about a dress inspired by THE icon of the 1950s……
Monique Lhuillier Monroe – a glamorous satin, halterneck, ankle length gown
1960s
The decade that saw the emergence of the mini, bouffant hair cuts and black eye liner……
Ivy & Astor’s lace mini with a strapless sweetheart neckline
Amsale Nola – a knee length mini with ruffled/feather skirt
Or if short isn’t for you, then how about this beautiful gown with a touch of Breakfast at Tiffany’s style……

1970s
Bohemian and whimsical with free-spirited floaty layers and a relaxed feel……
Ivy & Astor’s floorlength strapless Bohemian layered dress
Pronovias long sleeved, bohemian dress
Pronovias lace layered bohemian dress
There is nothing I love more than a vintage inspired gown with a splash of colour (as you will know if you’re read my Utterly Gorgeous Gowns for the Unconventional Bride post), so imagine my joy when I came across these delectable dresses in the 2012 collections……
Alfred Angelo Powder Blue Ruffles Gown
Badgely Mischka Cascadia – blush floor length sheath dress
Badgely Mischka Desdemonia Lace v-neck floor length sheath dress
Enzoani glamourous plum vintage inspired gown
As ever, Vera Wang was by far the most bold with colour, without a single white or ivory dress in her Fall collection, instead pairing black with pretty nude colours – bold, brave and incredibly beautiful!

And if you’re still not convinced about wearing colour then take a look at this piece on pretty pastel pink and blush gowns on Brides.com.
Oh I do love my blog and the perfect excuse it gives me to swoon over the latest and most beautiful wedding dresses!
