A Classic Timeless Wedding
NOI TRAN PHOTOGRAPHYEmma & Joe had the most timelessly elegant celebration at the historic, but newly renovated, Georgian Hall. It was the perfect venue for their vision of a light and airy wedding. Emma looked heavenly in a gorgeous gown from one of my absolute favourite designers, whilst her mismatched bridesmaids all in white and blooms to match added to the understated and ethereal look of their day…..
Fellow Jenny Packham bride Emma, shared these words about their day….. “We wanted something simple and classic. Most importantly, we wanted to get married in Athens, Georgia, where we currently live. We wanted to show our friends and family what a wonderful town Athens is and to showcase its downtown businesses, local artists and vendors, and fantastic food. Our venue, Georgian Hall, is an historical building in downtown Athens, built in 1908. It had recently been restored and we immediately fell in love with its architecture and history. We didn’t really have any “colors” in mind and just wanted something light and neutral that wouldn’t take away from the venue’s features, such as its original stained glass Palladian windows, restored mosaic tile floors, and black walnut doors. Our wedding coordinator, Whitney Downs of Whitewood Events, was instrumental in carrying out that vision from the vintage rug at the altar to the table linens to the signage.
We just wanted our friends and family to have a good time. We skipped things like the bouquet and garter toss, and some other traditions that we find outdated, but we tried to have a good mix of modern and traditional elements to make everyone happy. Hands down the two best expenses were for our wedding planner, Whitney, and photographer, Noi Tran. They were both well worth the expense and made our wedding the perfect day.
The whole day was perfect, and in the end I got to marry my best friend. The whole thing was a bit of a whirlwind and it’s hard to pick a perfect moment., but to be in the same place as everyone we love and have their support in such an important moment in our lives is something we will never forget.”
“I knew I wanted a dress with a vintage feel so I went to Kelly’s Closet in Atlanta where I knew they were having a Jenny Packham trunk show. The dress I chose was definitely not what I thought I would’ve chosen, but it was comfortable, unique, and fit perfectly so I was able to buy the floor sample. Since the dress had Swarovski crystals and pearls I decided to accessorize with a little extra sparkle. I chose Jimmy Choo Romy Glitter flats, and pearl and crystal earrings and hair pins from BHLDN. I also wore one of my grandmother’s bracelets as my something old. It’s just a simple gold bangle, but it reminds me of her and I wanted to make sure to include it.”
“We looked to Whitney to help us choose flowers. We wanted whites and creams with some greenery, but other than that we let Whitney and Brett Glenn of European Floral Design take the reigns and run with it. They came up with a beautiful mixture of flowers and greenery, including a beautifully simple altar space.”
“Joe and I love the cupcakes at a local Argentinian restaurant, Viva Argentine. We decided to have 5 flavors of mini cupcakes from Viva, which were arranged on a tiered stand. Both of our mothers wanted us to cut a cake so we chose a small, simple, 6” coconut cake with buttercream from Classic City Confections to honor their request. We used the cake knife and server that Joe’s parent’s used at their wedding. His sister and brotherinlaw have used it, as well.”
Pearls of wedding wisdom from the bride….
“If you can, hire a good wedding planner who gets you as a couple. As attorneys, Joe and I have very busy jobs and didn’t have the time to plan the wedding ourselves. Whitney took the time to get to know us and made sure that we had the wedding we wanted without any of the stress. Also, it’s OK to say no to people. It’s your wedding so make sure it’s what you want.”
Tell us a little bit about your photographer….
“Noi is incredible. We first met her at the engagement session at our house. We wanted to do something at home, doing things we normally do like cooking, mixing cocktails, and sitting on the couch with our dogs and cat. Noi made us feel comfortable and we knew we made the right choice when we received the engagement photos. Her photography isn’t your standard wedding photography. Noi is an artist. She uses film and natural light to bring the real experience to her photographs. She brought out the beauty of the venue and captured the day perfectly.”
So elegant don’t you think?? I love this wedding so much!
