1950s Weddings
A 1950s Infused City-Chic Wedding with a Jackie Kennedy Inspired Wedding Dress
CLAIRE MORGAN PHOTOGRAPHYIf there is one thing I miss, living in New Zealand, (other than robins and foxes) it would be the history we are so lucky to have on our doorstep in Europe; and today’s wedding from Claire Morgan reminded me why! Bride and Groom Christina & Stefan were lucky enough to exchange their vows in front of the breathtakingly beautiful main altar of a 17th century, Baroque church in Vienna…..
From the prettiest palette of pinks, and the romantic rose floral arrangements, to the historic venue, and vintage Mustang; everything about this 1950s inspired wedding says chic, vintage-inspired perfection! And as if that isn’t enough, they also have the sweetest love story. Christina & Stefan grew up together – there are even photos of them together at 3 and 4! But despite going to the same school and even holidaying together, it wasn’t until some years later when they moved away to university that friendship turned to love – and it seems the couple were the last to know! “We thought for a year we were just friends… but our friends already thought there was more… and then one day we had our first kiss, and we had to admit it was love.”
And after Stefan proposed, it was time to plan their big day. Christina said that throughout she was relaxed and never stressed, and I think when you read how she describes their day, it is easy to see why. “I wanted our wedding to be relaxed and a lot of fun, and it was exactly that! We always wanted to have a not too big, not too stressful, wedding. As in our hometown, where we grew up, weddings are twice or three time bigger than the wedding we envisioned for ourselves, we thought about eloping..… but in the end we compromised with a city wedding. And no city could have been more fitting that the city where we went to University and fell in love – Vienna! We were married at the beautiful Franziskanerkirche (the Church of St. Jerome) at 4 Franziskanerplatz. I knew this church as my maid of honour’s bother is a priest there, and it was lovely having him able to marry us. I also always wanted to have a little champagne reception in front of the church, I love the square there so much…… In fact, there is nothing I would change about our wedding day, for us it was perfect!”
“For me, the most important buy were my shoes – I love shoes and have 35 pairs in my closet 🙂 Many shoes from the wedding shops I visited didn’t fit or didn’t work with my dress. I already owned one pair of shoes that I love from a shoemaker company in Germany, who also happened to do shoes tailor-made. I thought about white, but was worried the color might not be 100% right, so I chose my favorite color – pink. And then I took this color as main color for the wedding.”
“My wedding dress was by Aire-Bareclona. It was one I missed the first time I looked because it was strapless and I wanted something with sleeves. But because it reminded me of a dress from the book “Jackie Kennedy- The white house years” I tried it on and fell in love with it. I got the feeling the moment I tried it that this is me. I simply loved it and knew as well that the rest of the wedding would be perfect.”
“The headpiece was definitely one of the reasons why I said yes to my dress, because I always wanted to wear a vintage style pillbox hat for my wedding and I knew the dress would be perfect for it. So with my dress, and the idea of Jackie Kennedy in my mind, I found my headpiece and everything was clear.”
“I always wanted to have roses for my bouquet and the color was fixed by my shoes, so that part was easy! The florist Penzo Flowers is a friend of my fathers and he did a beautiful job with my handtied bouquet and the reception flowers.”
“I kept my jewelry simple as I wanted the main focus to be my engagement and weddings rings. I went for old ear pearl drop rings, a pearl bracelet was my something new, on my underwear the name of my husband was written in blue 🙂 and borrowed was my handkerchief, which I really needed.”
“Our reception was simple, classic and chic! The decor matched the color of my shoes and flowers, and we used bows in satin ribbon as both my dress and my shoes had this lovely little bow detail.”
“Our wedding cake was handmade by one of our friends, the girlfriend of my husband’s best man!!! It was their present for us. And it was exactly the right thing!”

“Relax and enjoy! And don’t let anybody else tell you what you should do – it is your day!”
Tell us a little bit about your photographer…..
“My husband loves to take photos, so this was really important to him. A photographer was the first thing we looked for when we agreed on a date, and after seeing some picture of Claire’s there was really no other choice for us! Her style is gorgeous, simply capturing the moment….. which is perfectly us.”
