A Timelessly Romantic Rose Pink Wedding
JENN KAVANAGHToday’s wedding is the epitome of timeless romance thanks to the delightful style of the bride & groom, the soft pink and navy color palette, and the abundance of lush florals. From the bouquets to the ceremony decor and centerpieces, it is a floral fancy from start to finish and one you will most definitely want to pin aplenty!
Engaged for two years after a romantic candlelit proposal, Katelyn & Philip were determined to enjoy the process of planning their big day and went about it the right way by hiring seasoned professionals and accepting help from loved ones. Katelyn explains, “Starting the planning can be quite overwhelming. There are so many decisions you feel you have to make, but taking them one at a time, bit by bit, allows for the planning to be just as enjoyable as the actual wedding day.
Since we contracted such creative professionals to help us deliver our perfect wedding, we look back on the day with nothing but positive memories. Our day was filled with a lot of personal touches that made it uniquely our own, but we were also fortunate enough to have a team of friends and family that took some of the weight off our shoulders.”
“I looked at hundreds of dresses online, finding fault with each and every one, until I stumbled upon the absolutely gorgeous, chic, and stylish Jasmine Couture gown at a bridal show in London, England. I knew instantly it was the one. This gorgeous gown described me and my personality perfectly, and I was so excited to try it on. After locating it at a bridal shop back in Canada, I anxiously booked an appointment, fearing that once it was on, it may not live up to the hype I built around it. Fortunately, it remained love at first sight, and is the only wedding gown I have ever tried on. My wedding gown is timeless, and elegant, without being over-stated, and will remain my most treasured item of clothing for many years.”
“My shoes from Nina were equally fabulous. They mirrored the vintage design of my dress and my headpiece, with ombré-shaded crystals outlining a leaf-shaped strap.”
“Knowing so little about floral arrangements, we knew we needed Sue Gallo to take the lead. Sue delivered the most exquisite floral arrangements. My bouquet was a hand-tied work of art, consisting of blush and cream tones with textured greenery, roses, ranunculus, blushing bride, duty miller, cream pieris and jasmine vine florals.
In addition to mine and my bridesmaids’ gorgeous bouquets, Sue also created a flower wand for my 83-year old grandmother, who was our grand flower girl – our grand ring bearer was Philip’s 87-year-old grandfather.”
“My bridesmaids consisted of family and friends. As they were located in separate countries we were never able to meet up and try on dresses together. Instead, I was tasked with finding a dress that would suit all body types and require minimal alterations. Eventually we all decided on a simple blush pink chiffon dress. As a thank you for their massive role in our wedding, we gifted them with pearl necklaces, which complemented the simple dress beautifully and actually tied into the beading of both my gown and headpiece.”
“Philip and his groomsmen worn navy suits, with Phil wearing a three-piece. The navy was accented by a blush pink paisley tie and pocket square, along with brown dress shoes.”
“For my hair accessory I knew I needed to find something that would complement my gorgeous gown, without competing with its unique style, and so, when I saw the beautiful designs by Twigs & Honey I knew my vision was coming together. My headpiece was a handmade work of art; enamelled flowers, crystals, and finished with gold ribbon.”
“The first look was my favourite moment of the whole day. We were both extremely nervous before the ceremony, and having the opportunity to see each other helped tremendously. It also provided a private moment for us as well as a great opportunity to capture some photos.”
“We were married at the Ancaster Mill, inside the Millers Chapel. Choosing to get married here was easy, as this venue and its location holds ties to both my parents. Of course, the picturesque landscape, superior service and unmatched menu made this decision all the more simple.
We were lucky enough to be one of the first couples to wed in the Millers Chapel. It was the perfect location for us as it offered stunning architecture, elegant chandeliers and neutral décor, which we were able to personalize with our florals and colour theme.”
“Our reception was also located at Ancaster Mill, in the Governor’s Room. We loved this location for many reasons; it gave us the warmth we wanted from the dark wooden beams and dance floor, the gold chivalry chairs, and the stone fireplace, and it provided an intimate, rustic setting.”
“As candles were a major component of Philip’s proposal, we wanted to emulate that at our wedding reception. Sue Gallo set-up the most romantic atmosphere, adorning nearly every flat surface with candle & floral arrangements. Each table had its own textured arrangement in matching shades of taupe, cream and blush pink, which were surrounded by the glow from numerous pillar and floating candles.”
“Sue also surprised us with the antique lace tablecloths – an element we really wanted but couldn’t justify at the time of planning (everyone has a budget!). So when we walked into the reception room for the first time and saw them, we were incredibly surprised. They added a lovely finishing touch, and it really brought our entire vision to life.”
“We kept it really simple here. Our wedding cake was one-tiered, white chocolate with raspberry compote. It was deliciously understated and perfect for us. We complimented this with dozens of miniature cakes, ranging from the classic red velvet to a more adventurous raspberry almond pistachio mousse in order to ensure all of our guests’ taste buds were satisfied.”
Pearls of wedding wisdom from the bride…
“”The day will fly by!” So many people warned us of this. The best bit of advice we received was to take a moment (or two) during the day and just look around the room. You will be surrounded by those that love you most in this world – appreciate that. Appreciate the time they took to celebrate this day with you, and live in the moment.
Do not sweat the small stuff. Your day will be unique and yours. No one will notice if something is out of place, or if the table numbers are not a work of art. If you feel stressed, it will be evident in the photos and video, which is not something you want to be reminded of each time you take a walk down memory lane.”
Tell us a little bit about your photographer…
“While looking at photos of our venue we found our photographer, Jenn Kavanagh Photography. Her style of work was exactly what we wanted, art in the moment, capturing true emotions – rather than staged and stiff smiles. After our venue, Jenn was the first person we booked, and she was great at discussing our vision while we still lived in England.
It is so important that you find a photographer that you get along with. They will be sharing one of the most special moments of your life, and its vital that they make you feel relaxed and that you have complete confidence in their capabilities. Jenn offered all of these qualities, and more. She never made us feel pressured or rushed and could immediately tell when Philip and I needed a moments break from everything. Her work is flawless.”
SO romantic – I am completely smitten with everything about Katelyn & Philip’s day! Many congratulations to them both, and of course a big thankyou for sharing their beautiful day with us. Special thanks also to their lovely photographer Jenn Kavanagh who did the most wonderful job of capturing it all so perfectly.
