20 Wow Wedding Cake Alternatives

July 30, 2012

What I love about weddings today is how the personality of the bride & groom show through, and that doesn’t have to end with your dress, vows or decor. Wedding cakes no longer have to be… well cakes! If a traditional wedding cake isn’t really you then why not treat your guests to a taste of your favourite sweet, or savoury, treats?

Here are 20 fun, creative, unusual, surprisingly simple, relatively inexpensive, and most of all unexpected traditional Wedding Cake alternatives….

The picture you’ve tagged as ‘Homemade cookie tower’ is actually a tower of Welsh cakes – a traditional tea-time treat in Wales, UK. Welsh cakes are cooked on a griddle/ bake stone and they have a scone-like texture. They usually have nutmeg/ mixed spices in with the currants and they can be sprinkled with sugar too.

It’s quite popular in Wales to give out heart-shaped Welsh cakes for wedding favours.

If you want to try them, there are lots of recipes online:
