The 1950s was a time of recovery and growing prosperity, which in turn meant, after the austerity of the 1940s, a return to glamour! Fashion and hair styles became less formal and both were heavily influenced by the growing number of Film and TV celebrities, which at this time included some of our greatest icons – Grace Kelly, Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe. Christian Dior introduced his “New Look” silhouette, with its full sweeping skirts and fitted waists. Whilst crooners such as Frank Sinatra & Dean Martin filled the airwaves and walked the silver screen…. until they were rudely interrupted by Rock’n’Roll and Elvis!
