A Romantic Industrial-Vintage Wedding

ERIN MORRISON PHOTOGRAPHY

Long gone are the days when vintage meant either shabby chic, a tea length wedding dress or flapper style headpieces. Today’s vintage loving couples are taking their love of eras past and infusing it into a modern celebration in the most stylish ways, and I absolutely love it! And Meagan & Adam are the perfect example of this.  They tied the knot at the Jackson Terminal in Knoxville, and took the industrial feel of the space with its vintage brick walls and exposed beams, and added a layer of romance to create the perfect backdrop for their summer celebration!

Romantic Industrial Vintage Wedding

Meagan’s chosen color palette of blush pink, mint, cream and gold, alongside the Summer blooms and mismatched bridesmaid dresses, added more than a hint of softness and romance to their industrial venue. But the couple kept their decor minimal, allowing the architecture of the historic building to shine, and included modern elements such as geometric terrariums filled with succulents, which they mixed with old bicycles, rustic DIY signs and vintage suitcases. And Meagan’s Granddad’s old truck made a special appearance, as a surprise gift for the bride, unveiled during their emotional first look!

Here’s the lovely bride herself, to tell you all about it….. “We got married at the historic Jackson Terminal in beautiful downtown Knoxville. We knew we wanted to get married downtown (that’s where we met, worked together for a long time, and love hanging out in our free time), and there were many beautiful downtown venues. But when I walked in JT, I knew it was the right space. The size was perfect, not too big or too small, and we could have both the ceremony and reception in the same space. I loved the historic and somewhat industrial feel, and Adam loved all the dark wood and architecture. We found it by just driving around and exploring downtown venues.”

“My perfect dress was the first dress I tried on at the first appointment I made to try on dresses at the first dress boutique I visited. I orginally spotted my dress on the BHLDN website and started following the designed (Watters) on Instagram. The more photos I found of my gown, the Penelope, the more I fell in love with it and knew that it may be the one. When I walked into White Lace & Promises in Knoxville, TN I asked for the Watters Penelope by name and tried it on first. It was love at first sight. I tried on many others, but just kept coming back to that first dress.”

“I searched high and low for the perfect shoe. I had envisioned a dainty gold sandal with a small heel. After ordering and sending back many pairs of not-quite-right shoes, I finally found the perfect shoe (again on the BHLDN website), but they were out of my size. So, I went directly to the designer and purchased them from Klub Nico. They were exactly what I was hoping for, and were comfy all day long!”

“My bouquet was absolutely gorgeous. I chose  Lisa Foster Floral Design Studio for my florist and she and her team were wonderful! My color palette was blushes and pinks, mints and light greens, creams and golds. My bouquet included mostly roses, succulents, dusty miller, and seeded eucalyptus. My bouquet was medium sized and round shaped- simple and elegant.”

“I finished my look with a sweet, simple flower crown. During the ceremony and for part of the reception I wore a fingertip veil with gorgeous eyelash lace detail. My jewelry choices were simple- no necklace or bracelet, only teardrop opal earrings from designer Everything Angelic (also purchased at White Lace and Promises).”

“My sweet groom wore a light grey, slim fit suit that we found at Jos. A. Bank with a white button-up shirt, handmade light brown leather suspenders (made by leather artist, Carol McCoy of Real Leather Stuff), and a mint, striped bowtie that we ordered from Etsy shop Tangled Ties. He wore paisley blush/grey socks and cognac colored leather wingtip shoes. He looked more handsome that I could have ever dreamed.”

“I chose eight bridesmaids to stand by my side as I married the man of my dreams. I chose friends from each stage of my life- ladies that I consider to be lifelong friends. Several of the girls were best friends from college, a couple were old roommates, a couple were my closest friends since I’ve moved to Knoxville, and one was my new sister-in-law (and great friend).

I was going for a romantic and airy look for my bridesmaids. I gave my ladies a couples of shades of blush to choose from and described my style and vision to them, and let them find a dress of their choosing. Half of my girls chose long dresses and the other half chose short dresses- it just happened to work out equally! They all chose different styles and fabrics (each fitting their own unique personalities), but all of the dresses they ended up choosing came from BHLDN. The dresses ended up looking AMAZING together – I couldn’t have planned it better if I had tried to do it all myself. Each bridesmaid wore gold sandals (some with a heel, some wore flats), but all shoe styles were different yet beautiful together.”

“My groom chose the attire for his groomsmen. The eight groomsmen and one junior groomsman were dresssed in various shades of light grey, slim fit suits. Groomsmen were not given one specific suit to purchase, but the suits all blended and worked well together. They wore white button-up shirts, brown leather suspenders, cognac colored wingtip shoes, and each had their own special bowtie and fun patterned socks in shades of blush, mint, and grey.”

Since March Adam he had been restoring Meagan’s grandfather’s vintage Ford truck. On Saturdays, he would say that he was going to “work,” which he technically was… but he was working on making the old truck run again. When they did their first look the truck was placed behind the two of them, and after they saw each other, he surprised her with the key.

“My dress made me feel beautiful, lovely, and everything I had imagined I would feel on my wedding day. It was completely comfortable all day long. I loved it so much that I didn’t want to take it off by the end of the night. My groom couldn’t take his eyes off of me in my perfect dress, which was exactly what I had hoped for. It fit me in all the right places, and was great for lots of twirling on the dance floor.”

“The reception was in the same venue as our ceremony – Jackson Terminal. We wanted both events to be in the same space to keep it simple and to best use the beautiful space. The reception area was delineated by gorgeous ivory drapes from floor to ceiling. I rented these romantic drapes from All Occasion rentals. There was lots of greenery, moss, and flowers. I wanted everything to look natural, lovely, and romantic. All signage was done with cute chalkboards. Our gift table was set-up with a vintage white suitcase to house any cards that were given. Myself, my florist, my family, and my event coordinators decorated the reception area perfectly!”

“We had a large piece of furniture that displayed not only pictures of us (recent and childhood photos), but also displayed an entire shelf of photos of those family members that have passed on before our wedding. We truly wished they could have been there to celebrate the joyous occasion with us.”

“I really loved our wedding guestbook. Adam got me a polaroid camera a couple of Christmases ago, and I absolutely love the thing. I take it everywhere, and I am obsessed with the vintage look of the photos it produces. So, for our guestbook, we had guests take a polaroid photo, and them post it into our book with a small area to write a little message to us. It was one of my favorite touches!”

“Our wedding cakes were crafted by Sweet Beginnings by Elaine. Elaine makes some of the most delicious cake I have ever tasted, and we were very happy with her beautiful work. Instead of one large cake, I chose three smaller cakes. The “bride’s cake” was a two-tier cake in the middle decorated with lots of lovely pink flowers. The two smaller cakes on each side were one tier and had fun icing textures/patterns. The wedding cake flavor was strawberry with vanilla buttercream icing.

Our serving-ware for our cakes was borrowed from my mom. It was the same serving pieces she used at her and my dad’s wedding back in 1983. It had lovely mother-of-pearl handles, and was perfect for our wedding style. I loved the extra personal touch it added.”

Pearls of Wedding Wisdom from the Bride…

“Start early! Give yourself time for planning mishaps! Give yourself a planning cut-off date- mine was the Wednesday before the (Saturday) wedding. I needed a few days to celebrate and NOT worry about the details. Make a word document with all those little details, DELEGATE, and then drink wine and relax. : )”

Tell us a little bit about your photographer…

Erin Morrison was a dream to work with. I actually found her through another photographer I had contacted. When this other photographer told me she was booked they recommended Erin …it was MEANT TO BE. Erin was the perfect match for us. Erin herself is lovely and real, and her work truly reflects that – it shows raw emotion and real moments. She does an amazing job of capturing little moments throughout the day, and those are the moments I didn’t want to miss. She was great to work with, and I was extremely pleased with her work. Erin made us feel like we were the coolest, cutest couple in the world, and she made the whole day flow effortlessly. I liked that she took the reigns with planning the day’s photographic opportunities, and really embraced all the beautiful moments and details throughout the day. If I did it all over again I would choose her every time!”
