Snippets, Whispers & Ribbons
20 Chic 1950s Inspired Wedding Dresses
As we’re approaching the end of this series of 1950s themed Snippets, Whispers & Ribbons, I thought it was about time we focused on the most important detail of any wedding, 1950s inspired or otherwise. I am of course talking THE dress! And with many of the fashion details so popular back then on trend again, you lucky brides looking to channel your inner Audrey Hepburn or Elizabeth Taylor are positively spoiled for choice when it comes to your dress! Here are just a few of my favourites from the 2016 collections…..
Charm in tea-length……
The epitome of mid-century glamour and elegance, Tea Length wedding dress are perfect for the 1950s loving bride. With petticoats of tulle they create a stunning, waist-cinching silhouette, as well as a sweet and fun bridal look. Being a little more informal than the floor length alternative they suit a more relaxed and even rustic wedding, but with the right accessories they can also look suitably sophisticated for a city hall wedding, and just as lovely for a vintage infused classic wedding!

Spring 2016 Randi Rahm
Wisteria – Matthew Christopher
Or go floor length and fabulous…..
You don’t have to go tea length for a 1950s feel to your look though. For something a little more formal and fitting for the cooler months, channel your inner Jaqueline Bouvier and Elizabeth Taylor and choose a floor length gown. To give it the unmistakable glamour and elegance of the 1950s just make sure it is princess or ballgown style, which means a structured bodice, nipped in waist and full skirt! Add a hint more vintage to your look with design details from the era such as sweetheart or bateau necklines, broderie anglaise, bows and ditsy florals; or give your look a modern edge with off shoulder sleeves, plunging necklines and floral prints…..

Of course if you’re looking for something a little more authentic, then you should go and see the lovely ladies over at Mill Crest Vintage – they have the biggest and most beautiful collection of authentic vintage wedding (and bridesmaid!) dresses I have ever laid my eyes on. And if you have love the 1950s, you might want to take a look at some of the others in this mid-century inspired series.
