20 Breathtaking Black Wedding Cakes
Last weeks post on delicious alternatives to the traditional wedding cake (hope you didn’t miss it, it was a corker!) got me thinking about how else today’s couples can express a little individuality and create a wow with their wedding cake. And one of the easiest ways that came to mind was colour, and in particular black! Before you scream and run away, just bear with me for a moment! You see whilst suggesting a black wedding cake might make your Nanna fall off her rocker, it really isn’t as crazy as it sounds. As well as making a real style statement, a black wedding cake is definitely something your guests won’t forget, they can also look as delicious as they taste! Don’t believe me? Just take a look – I have rounded up 20 of the most breathtaking…..
Whilst white wedding cakes are timeless, and will never go out of fashion, couples have been making the departure away from this traditional hue for a while now. Choosing instead to go with a colour, or indeed a dessert other than a cake, that better reflects their style, tastes and love. For some reason though, it’s still considered unconventional to choose a black cake.
But Black isn’t just for Halloween, goths and ghouls! And black wedding cakes can look just as wow as their lighter counterparts. A little moodier and verging on sultry yes, but also opulent and sophisticated. So I am hoping these might convince you that black wedding cakes are a beautiful alternative to the traditional white – and will make for some seriously stunning pictures on your big day!

If you’re still worried about losing the romance factor with a black wedding cake, fear not. From classic, floral-covered tiers to ruffles, metallics and creative calligraphy covered blackboards, there are just as many, if not more, decorative options with a black wedding cake as there are with a white one. Here are a few of my faves….
Chalkboard
Create a blank canvas with some simple black icing and then decorate accordingly…..

Floral
Last but not least, whether iced or fresh, florals have extra pop against the contrast of a black background. And choose the right flowers and your cake can look like a dutch masterpiece – what can be more romantic than that?

See what I mean by breathtaking? And I don’t think anyone could argue these cakes don’t look every bit as beautiful in black as they would do in white! I hope you’ve pinned your favourites, but if you want to pin all of them at once just click here for a special collection I created for you!
