Exquisite Vintage Bridal Gowns from The Frock
In my sneak peek of posts to come I teased you with the promise of showing where you can find the most fabulous Vintage Wedding Dresses and today I am finally getting round to keeping that promise!
I have been so keen to share The Frock with you, but I confess to having been sidetracked by research for other exciting posts I have planned (including floral bridal crowns, a Hollywood Glamour moodboard full of inspiration for brides planning a wedding with a nod to the golden age of film and a selection of the most beautiful dresses from the latest, 2012, collections) oh and of course the CVB makeover, hopefully you’re starting to notice the improvements and new features – honestly there just isn’t enough time in the week! But as a blog for lovers of all things vintage and vintage inspired, I could not delay featuring on CVB, what is the very best collection of vintage dresses for sale I have EVER come across, any longer!
The Frock is an American online retailer selling Vintage clothing from Victorian, all the way through to the 1980s – including some celebrity items, and has a section dedicated entirely to Bridal wear. And what a section it is, pages upon pages of vintage and designer vintage dresses in the most immaculate condition! With so many glamorous, gorgeous, bridal gowns, choosing my favourites was a near impossible (but incredibly enjoyable – I never get bored of looking at pretty) task, but here goes……
1910
1920s
1930s
Oh I simply couldn’t choose between the above lace wedding dress and this incredible ostrich feather creation, so I had to include both!
1940s
1950s
I love the scalloped lace of the above gown and the oh so fities floral adornments on the Cindarella gown below so much that I just had to show you both!
1960s
1970s
The scalloped lace on the Valentino dress is just lovely and the design would create the most incedible silhouette, but the 1970s also makes me think of bohemian, whimsical designs more like this……
I suppose I will just have to feature both!
And whilst I wouldn’t usually describe the 1980s as vintage I just had to include this dress from Versace……
because its the sort of gown I imagine fierce, screen siren Joan Crawford would have worn and I absolutely want it!
The Frock was started by art student and paralegal Christian Madrigal in San Francisco, as a way of “off loading” items from his ever increasing collection of Victorian and Edwardian mourning dresses and capes, it quickly grew into a major business.
My favourite is the Victorian and Edwardian era pieces – how gorgeous are these, currently on offer……
Ahhhh just dreamy they are so Downton Abbey-esque! (I do hope everyone is watching the second season with as much excitement as I am!)
Oh and I love the dramatic feathers of this cape……
The Frock really came in to eminence in 2005 when it was featured in American Vogue, the editor of which said “….its all about fabulous frocks that women have worn and loved for their beauty, unique details and flattering silhouettes.”
And in the same year was named by none other than the always perfectly vintage-styled and immaculately coiffed Dita Von Teese, as her favourite place to shop for vintage clothing in Harpers 100 Best Dressed.
If you’re looking for an original, vintage gown go, go now and shop at The Frock – they ship internationally!
