A Vintage-Inspired Nautical Summer Wedding in Coral & Navy
ANNA KARDOS PHOTOGRAPHY
I couldn’t let Summer pass by without sharing this delightful nautical wedding from Anna Kardos. The sweet couple’s relaxed style and sense of fun shines through in everything from their bright and beautiful coral & navy colour palette, to the lad’s cool look and their largely DIYable decor. All in all it makes for quite the inspirational, and unforgettable, affair…..
Before I pass you over to lovely bride Megan, I have a few words about the day from the lady behind the camera Anna “Their wedding was a wonderful combination of nautical, summery, and preppy details. Luke looked so dapper in his white pants and navy shirt and Megan looked stunning in her lace gown.
They were smart about planning their day by building in a huge chunk of time before the ceremony to do a ‘First Look’, as well as, all of the bridal party photos and their own portraits. Because of this they had plenty of time during the reception to enjoy dinner, spend time with friends and family, and dance the night away!
These two are my favorite kind of couple: fun-loving, kind-hearted, and so classy. Despite the blazing heat and the raging thunderstorms we experienced during the reception, Megan & Luke had great attitudes. And I LOVE to see a couple really enjoy their wedding day. “
“My florist was a good friend’s mom. Judy Villwock is the owner of the Country Peddler in Chester, MD. I had seen pictures of her work, plus I knew Judy well and I knew she would do an awesome job. I showed her some pictures from my pintrest board that had beautiful coral and white flowers and I let her run with the rest!”
“Like every girl, I wanted a beautiful wedding dress. But, I wanted to start with the cheaper options and then work up if I needed to. If I could find one I loved for an inexpensive price, then why not? I fell in love with the second dress I tried on and I knew it was it. Plus, it was only $499, so you can’t beat that!”
“Luke is a great dresser and he asked if he could try to put something together for the guys. When he showed me it, I loved it and we decided to do it! It was fun and different, which is exactly what we wanted our day to be like 🙂 So, the groomsmen wore white pants, blue patterned shirts, plain coral bow ties, Sperrys and suspenders; and Luke wore white pants with a navy shirt and a checked coral bow tie.”
“We found our venue online. We knew we wanted to get married outside on the water, specifically the Chesapeake Bay. We didn’t want to spend a fortune but just wanted a nice outdoor venue that we could really work with. I always envisioned hanging string lights from the trees and it to look so beautiful and that’s what Maria’s Bed & Breakfast was. It was intimate and perfect!”
“My dad gave me away! We drove up in a Rolls Royce as a present from one of the groomsmens’ parents. It was AWESOME walking down the aisle. I first looked at Luke, then looked around at my family and friends who came, and then back at Luke. I so wanted to go to Luke that I accidentally forgot to hug my dad! He laughed and gave me a big hug and then passed me to Luke.”
“We did not have anyone come up and read during the ceremony, but we did have our pastor read from the Bible about Ephesians 5:22-33 about respect and submission between Christ and the church and between a husband and a wife.”
“I had 8 bridesmaids and they were my sisters and closest friends from home and college. I wanted them to wear coral sweatheart neckline dresses and they looked beautful! We found their dresses at David’s Bridal too, and then I bought them white necklaces from Charming Charlie and sandals from Target – I knew the wedding would be outside in the grass so comfortable sandals were a must! They all wore their hair in an updo – I knew it was going to be a hot day and I just wanted their hair to look nice, and be out of the way so they didn’t get too hot!”
“We had the reception at the same location in a big tent overlooking the Bay. We decorated the tent with Café Lights and it was beautiful! All the decorations were coral and navy and very nautical – thanks to Pinterest! My mother in law lead the show setting it up, and then all her friends and my friends joined in, and together they set up the wedding to be the most beautiful it could be!”
“Sara Villwock (my friend whose mom was the florist) is good at making cakes so I just asked her if she could make a small single tiered cake. My sister Sarah (different Sarah) made 200 cupcakes and we had cannolis as well! We don’t really “love” cake, plus it was hot so we didn’t want to have this big fancy cake that no one would eat. And we both really love cannolis so we decided to add those as well! This helped save a ton of money!”
“Judy did a fantastic job of making the flowers be the main centerpiece. We had navy and white striped table runners and white and coral flowers so it really tied the colors together. Then we had lanterns and cool nautical table numbers, which really tied the theme together as well.”
“We had our food served from a FOOD TRUCK. It was a barbeque food truck and it was delicious! Such a good idea by Luke and it made it very fun and unique. Luke and his sisters made up our signature drink! This drink is called a Kentucky Sunset and it is blended fruit, lemonade and whisky blended together! So delicious!”
Pearls of wedding wisdom from the bride…
“Nothing really matters besides having your family and friends there as you marry the man of your dreams!”
Tell us a little bit about your photographer…
“Our photographer – Anna Kardos – was absolutely amazing! She did our engagement photos also and we were so, so impressed with her. She is professional yet so kind, fun, and relatable. We chose her because we loved her style and her reviews online. Once I met her for coffee, I knew she would be able to make our dream wedding come true and do an amazing job! She made us feel so relaxed and she gave us the best gift—the most amazing wedding photos ever! “
