A Sweet Mid-Century Inspired Maryland Wedding

Tricia & Aaron’s Celebrations At The Bay wedding was full of sweet, heartfelt moments but hosted a day more full of laughter and partying! From the retro invitations to Tricia’s tea length ModCloth wedding dress and blusher veil, to the homemade jam wedding favors and the vintage suitcase for collecting their cards, Tricia and Aaron showcased their love of classic retro style, without ignoring a romantic contemporary touch thanks to their gorgeous greenery aisle arch and centerpieces. All in all, it is chic vintage perfection!

“My husband is from Kent Island (just over the Bay Bridge) and my family is from the Baltimore suburbs, so we chose Pasadena as a middle ground for the two. Celebrations’ was a beautiful setting on the water at sunset. We really took a risk having it outside on the water in November, but I feel like it was worth the chill! It was truly beautiful.

I am a lover of all things retro or mid-century, I also know that I’m a total klutz so I could never wear a long dress! For me, I drew inspiration from my grandmothers wedding photos and as many mid-century brides as I could find on Pinterest. As much as possible, I tried to draw from the mid-century décor I had, like my vintage train case I found for my make-up I used for my card box.

Our wedding colors were dark teal and mint. I decided to let the bridesmaids chose their own dresses, I always felt that makes it affordable for them and they can chose a style that really fits their body type!

I went back and forth on what types of flowers and in the end just went simple with pillar candles and the eucalyptus on the tables. I feel like it was clean and pretty and the table number added the retro touch.”

“I literally bought my dress online the day after I got engaged. I had seen it when I was browsing their website and I just wanted to see what a short dress looked like on. I knew as soon as  I put it on that it was perfect for me. I have extremely short legs so I knew with the right heel it would look perfect. I chose the mint shoes because, well why not? My flower girls wore mint as well. I loved the t strap of the heels, I think it gave the extra retro touch I was looking for.  My hair, done by one of my best friends was exactly how I imagined. I thought that a little beehive with that adorable short veil and a little retro flair to my makeup.”

“I wanted to make my own bouquets originally, but then I realized I was biting off more than I could chew. I didn’t even know what they’d look like until the day of (which was scary) but Brigid knew my vision. I wanted pale pinks and creams that wouldn’t over shine the dresses. I said I liked wild open roses and hypericum berries for the corsages. I also love greenery, so I asked for a lot of eucalyptus to be used & small bouquets for the bridesmaids & jr. bridesmaids to add another retro touch.”

“As far as Aaron goes, I wanted him and the guys to be comfortable. I liked the idea of a 3 piece suit, but I also just liked the vest.”

“My grandmother passed away about 3 years ago and she always made jam for holidays. So I made her jam recipe for our and everyone got one as their place card/favour. The whole process made it feel like she was there, from making the jam with my mom and Aunt, to tying a ribbon and nametag on. I wanted something people could actually use & I felt like jam had a retro feel to it also.”

“For our wedding cake we each got a layer of flavour we liked – red velvet & strawberry short cake. I decided to keep the cake design simple with a retro polka dot and a laser cut topper with the words “the best is yet to come”. It was really delicious! “

Pearls of wedding wisdom from the bride….

“Stop worrying about making everyone happy. Remember that is your day!! Don’t let the little things discourage you, even if your friends bringing a plus one you didn’t plan on! You just have to roll with it, because before you know it the day is here!”

Tell us a little about your photographer…

“First of all, Meghan is amazing, I can’t say enough good things about her. She is so thoughtful and really great at what she does. She and I knew each other from years before where we attended the same church and reconnected when I got engaged. She is patient and meticulous at her craft, and SHE WILL ask you to stand in a bush, but speaking from experience, it is one of my favourite pictures!”
