Johanna Johnson’s Spring/Summer 2014 ‘Muse’ Collection

Thanks to the much anticipated release of Baz Luhrman’s Great Gatsby on the big screen we have seen a return to favour for 1920′s silhouettes and everything Art Deco throughout 2013 (and long may it continue!) But Art Deco isn’t just a trend for Johanna Johnson, it is in her DNA, the designer never strays from this most inspiring era and few do Deco better – who could forget her dazzling Luxor collection at last year’s MBFWA? Last month Johanna Johnson unveiled ‘Muse’, her spectacular Spring/Summer 2014 collection and it was every bit as wow as The Luxor……

Johanna Johnson’s popularity and presence on Hollywood’s red carpet has grown rapidly over the last few years, with the designer becoming a favourite of starts and royalty alike, Her clients include Christina Hendricks, Julie Bowen, Minnie Driver, Maya Rudolph, Meryl Streep and Her Serene Highness The Princess of Monaco, to name but a few.

The ‘Muse’ collection was inspired by the architecture of New York city, the building blocks of Art Deco. From the elegance of the Chrysler Building, to the empress of the city – The Empire State Building – this collection was built on the construction of embellished beaded designs, paneled silk gowns, detailed French laces, and reflective, metallic silhouettes. So luxurious are the dresses, it is easy to see the influence of the extravagant era and the lavish costumes worn by the glamorous gals of the Ziegfeld Follies on their Broadway stages…..

With her red carpet interpretation of bridal, Johanna Johnson approaches every gown with techniques and finishes of eras past, personally designing every gown, garment and accessory bead by bead. Each look is treated as its own homage to old Hollywood glamour, the structure of the  Art Deco era, and the tradition of dressing on ceremony.

“I wanted to create beautiful gowns that I myself would wear. Each gown is from a unique styling perspective,
and everything is considered from fit, to quality, to comfort, and with a rich range of styling options. Purchasing a bridal gown is a very intimate, emotional experience and it should be a memorable occasion.
A wedding gown is an heirloom piece that tells a story. A love story.”
