Wedding Bouquet Recipe

A Bridal Bouquet of Dahlias in Soft Autumn Shades

Chic Vintage Brides‘ resident floral expert Toni from Magdalen Hill is back today for another Bouquet Recipe, but this time she has identified the blooms and jotted down the recipe for one of YOUR favourite bouquets on Pinterest. And, with yesterday marking the first day of Autumn for most of you (it was actually the first day of Spring for me and the rest of us in the southern hemisphere), today’s bouquet, a beautifully deconstructed seasonal arrangement in soft non-traditional fall shades, couldn’t be any more perfect!…..

This oh so lovely bridal bouquet, created by Alicia of Bows And Arrows for the dreamiest winery wedding inspiration shoot, epitomises modern vintage. Featuring beautiful big dahlias in soft warm shades, and with stems wrapped in lush lengths of ribbon, it has an air of old world elegance; and yet the texture and unstructured shape is most definitely contemporary. I also love the way Alicia has used unconventional fall hues, with an array of pretty pinks and just a splash of deep blue berries that compliment the groom’s gorgeous suit…..

Such a an utterly swoonsome bouquet! Don’t you think? Over to Toni to tell us a little more about it “With a wedding set amongst the vines, this deconstructed bouquet, in a horizontal form, captures the essence of the location’s Spanish-Tuscan vibe. Essentially an Autumnal scheme with earthy terracottas, fiery auburns and amber found in the gomphrena, amaranthus and focal dahlia, which are given a feminine softness when combined with the crimson and coral of the bougainvillea and dahlias; creating a modern take on colours commonly associated with the season. Locally grown blooms in soft pinky creams, teamed with foraged natives, further highlight the natural surroundings, making for a sophisticated punch of colour that is warm and inviting amidst the olives and grape vine.”

Budget Key: $$$    ($ – Thrifty – $$$$$ Lavish)

A Bouquet for the Bride who: would like to embrace the season in a softer elegant way with a statement bouquet that embraces blooms that are locally sourced. It’s unstructured and organic shape gives it an almost just-picked look and a relaxed air that makes it as perfect for the bride planning an informal affair, as it does a classic, elegant celebration. Also, the soft autumnal colour scheme will add a beautiful glow against most bride’s complexions, something to consider for a timeless look.

Season available: Late summer through to early Autumn depending on location. Although Dahlias, which are quite distinctive in terms of their innumerable varieties, make up the majority of this bouquet, your florist will be able to suggest alternative blooms available in similar colours or that will create a similar olde world feel, if Dahlias are not in season at the time of year you plan to marry. The other flowers and foliage that make up this bouquet could also be substituted for more in-season or native plants, whilst still creating a similar look and feel.

Ask your florist for: A deconstructed bouquet, with a relaxed, organic feel and a distinctly horizontal shape. For a bouquet in these shades, ask for a palette of soft, feminine Autumnal tones – but it would look beautiful in any colour! Whilst a few carefully selected locally grown natives would add your own unique look to your bouquet.
