Usually Mr E, as supportive as he is, shows little interest in the posts I share on Chic Vintage Brides, but today’s beautiful inspiration shoot from Christy McKee Photography caught even his eye! Inspired by the Brad Pitt film ‘A River Runs Through It’ it is full of romantic vintage styling and details that would make it the dream wedding for any fly fishing obsessed groom!……

With the theme and style of a wedding often being set by the bride, I (and Mr E!) love the idea of a couple centering their celebration around the groom’s passion for fishing! But this definitely isn’t a shoot or theme only the boys will love. If you’ve ever seen ‘A River Runs Through It’ you will know the majority of the film is set in the 1930s, and the elegant influence of one of my favourite eras is evident throughout the design and styling of the shoot – from the bride & groom’s attire to the telegram inspired stationery by Ellen Morris Design, and the gorgeous vintage decor from Sincerely Forever Wedding Rentals to the simple yet chic wedding cake by Paris Cake Company.

Before we take a look at every charming detail, a few words from Christy on the details and creatives who made it all possible…. “The wedding dress was designed especially for the shoot by local designer Greta Kay. It has details hinting at the formality of the era but the dotted Swiss fabric suggests an airiness that you would expect in a modern bohemian riverside celebration. The bride’s custom Juliet cap of crocheted medallions falls into a veil edged in cotton embroidery lace. The groom’s wedding look of a crisp white shirt, suspenders, and blue plaid bow tie under a tweed jacket fits flawlessly into the setting.

The lush tablescape was designed by The Faded Poppy with everything sourced locally – even the water in the vases was pulled from the river. Painted river rocks are perfect as table place markers and the lush flowing greenery coupled with fine china and crystal suits the park setting. Vintage trunks and accessories hint at the era and suggest that this couple could have arrived and unpacked their luggage for a casual wedding by the river. And the bride’s sheath bouquet has the feeling that she might have foraged the blooms along the bank.

We enlisted the help of the local fly fishing shop, South River Fly shop, to assist with props and authenticity. And the wedding arch was created from two period correct fishing rods. Meanwhile, “Gone Fishing, Got Hooked” hangs from the spare tire of “Miss Annie,” a 1929 Model A Ford lovingly cared for by the car’s second owner, local Bob Kuykendall. We couldn’t think of a more perfect way for this couple to make their exit……”

Who knew fly fishing could be so romantic?? It’s impossible to take in all of the lovely details at once, so why not go back to the top and take another look, and don’t forget to have your pinning finger at the ready!
