Chic Vintage Bride – Patricia Kennedy

June 20, 2012

This week’s Chic Vintage Bride was sister in law to one of the most stylish women on the planet – imagine living in the shadow of the inimitable Jackie Kennedy. Patricia Kennedy, American socialite and sister of John F. Kennedy married Peter Lawford just a year after Jacqueline Bouvier married JFK…..

Patricia Kennedy 1954 wedding dress

Her wedding dress was designed by famed New York milliner and couturier Hattie Carnegie, created in sumptuous satin of pure white, with a super flattering and pretty portrait neckline, three quarter sleeves and a fitted bodice. The skirt was slim from the front, with a fabulously full back and train and her veil of illusion net cascaded from a juliet cap of satin ribbons.

Patricia was fascinated from childhood with Hollywood, it was little wonder therefore that she married dashing British actor and member of the ‘Rat Pack’ Peter Lawford. The couple first met  in the 1940s, but it wasn’t until they met for the third time in 1953 that they began courting, officially announcing their engagement, less than a year later.

They married in a lavish ceremony on April 24, 1954,  at the Roman Catholic Church of St. Thomas More in New York City.

I think that’s a 5 tier wedding cake… it reminds me a little of Catherine Middleton and Prince William’s with its elaborate icing.

I love this insight into what is still one of the most famous families in history. And whilst Jackie and Patricia’s dresses could hardly be more different, they are yet equally beautiful!
