Chic Vintage Bride – Josephine Saenz

March 28, 2012

Today’s Chic Vintage Bride may not be as famous as her unusually dapper looking groom, but she certainly has all the style and elegance of a 1930s queen of the silver screen……

Josephine Alicia Saenz & John Wayne married on June 24, 1933, in a garden ceremony That stance is unmistakably John Wayne isn’t it??? :-) even at his wedding in pin striped pants he looks like he should be wearing chaps and cowboy boots!

Josephine Alicia “Josie” Saenz, married Marion Morrison on June 24, 1933, in a beautiful garden ceremony.Josephine Alicia “Josie” Saenz, the daughter of the Consul General of Panama in the United States, José Saenz, was just 16 when she met John Wayne, at that time still know by his real name Marion Morrison. But it was 7 years before they walked down the aisle, due to some considerable resistance from her family (partly because he was a Presbyterian but largely because when they met he was still a struggling actor)Josephine Alicia Saenz & John Wayne married on June 24, 1933, in a garden ceremonyThe ceremony was held at the home of actress Loretta Young, who is pictured with the bride & groom in these photos. Josephine Alicia Saenz & John Wayne married on June 24, 1933, in a garden ceremony(Image Source – Corbis Images)

I love the bride’s embroidered veil and necklace, which can only be glimpsed but really adds to her simple gown.

I’m a little sad I was unable to find a picture of the bride on her own, she is rather dwarfed by her famous husband.
