Chic Vintage Bride – Fabiola of Aragon
February 27, 2013
On 15 December 1960, today’s Chic Vintage Bride married a king!…..
Fabiola of Aragon married King Baudouin of Belgium in the church of our Lady of Laeken, Brussels – a most beautiful gothic church….
The bride wore the most exquisite Art Deco tiara, a gift of the Belgian state upon the marriage of Léopold III, to her husband’s mother, another Chic Vintage Bride you may recognise, Princess Astrid of Sweden .
And yet other than this striking piece her bridal attire was memorable for its simplicity. Her bouquet was understated and her gorgeous long-sleeved wedding dress of satin was remarkably un-adorned, but trimmed in mink. Beautiful in its sculptural elegance it was created by none other than famed haute couture designer Cristóbal Balenciaga – truly a couturier and dress fit for a queen!
I suspect today’s wedding dress may not be to everyone’s taste (let me know if you adore it as I do) but I don’t know how anyone could resist that fabulous tiara!! Is it just me or is it time for a Tiara revival??

I can’t get behind mink (it was a different time then) but man do I love that dress and tiara. Also, her groom aged into an extremely handsome man.
I completely agree, as a vegetarian I can not support the use of animal fur…..but I love all things Balenciaga and that tiara makes my knees weak! x
