I am happy to confess to a hint of envy of today’s Chic Vintage Bride – not only was her wedding beautiful, but you should see the family home she married in to!
When Deborah Mitford, the youngest of the infamous and beautiful Mitford sisters, married Andrew Cavendish in 1941 she married into one of the richest and most influential aristocratic families in England. After Andrew’s brother was killed in action in World War ll, he became the Duke of Devonshire, and he and Deborah moved into Chatsworth House, the renowned country estate (used for Pemberley, Mr Darcy’s home, in 2005′s Pride & Prejudice)
When Andrew died in 2004, the title of Duke passed to their son and Deborah moved out of Chatsworth into a vicarage nearby; since her son’s wife is now the Duchess, she is presently called the Dowager Duchess of Devonshire (so Downton Abbey!)
