Chic Vintage Bride – Audrey Hepburn

January 25, 2012

Today’s Chic Vintage Bride wore not one but two of my favourite bridal fashions – a Floral Crown with which I still have a mini obsession (the more I see of them the more I love them) and a tea length wedding dress!

She is the absolute epitome of chic and almost 60 years after she danced onto the silver screen in Roman Holiday she remains a style icon and a much loved actress……

Audrey Hepburn 1954 Balmain Tea Length Wedding Dress

Audrey Hepburn married Mel Ferrer in 1954, wearing a Balmain dress that with its tiny waist, wide sleeves and full skirt, was simultaneously of the moment and utterly timeless.

I love that her gown accentuates her curves and compliments her petite frame, whilst her floral crown flatters her dainty features and elfin hair cut.

For her second marriage to Andrea Dotti, the ever fashionable Audrey wore a hot pink mini dress with matching head scarf – the lady truly was just too cool!

If you wish to channel a little Audrey or are as obsessed with Floral Crowns as I am, take a look at  CVB on Pinterest - I have collated quite a collection from vintage to bohemian via whimsical!

She didn’t hold a bouquet the first time? I wonder why. I saw some lovely high-neck vintage wedding dresses and Etsy and just fell in love. Mind you, it won’t do for an Australian summer wedding. Oh well.

I know – I think it’s a box clutch she’s holding. Sad about the bouquet, but I really do ♥ her flower crown! This is the problem with marrying somewhere you are pretty much guaranteed good weather – as a UK bride though, I can only imagine it’s quite a nice problem to have :) How about getting a dress with a highneck cape for the evening? Two looks are all the rage! x

She’s probably holding a small Bible in the first wedding, a common practice. My mother held a Bible with a small spray of flowers rather than a bouquet in 1959.
