Deco Decadence – Inspiration for an Art Deco Gold, Black & Ivory Wedding

Teasing and tempting little peeks of the new Baz Luhrman Great Gatsby film, being made next door in Australia, have started to appear on the world wide web and I for one can not wait!

Baz Luhrman's The Great Gatsby

Carey Mulligan, the with her ever chic hair in a bob, as the effervescent Daisy Buchanan and Leonardo Dicaprio in the dapper lead….. ohhhh it has me squealing with excitement and feeling all inspired!  The Great Gatsby, set in 1922, is inextricably linked to Art Deco and to capture the glamour and the decadence of the Deco era I chose a simple but effective palette of Gold, Ivory and Black…..

Art Deco was such a lavish and ornamental style this rich and swanky colour palette works perfectly. For details think feathers, ellaborate beading, headbands and linear symmetry in designs, decorations and jewellery.

There are a number of designers that immediately spring to mind for the bride’s dress, Johanna Johnson and her 2012 Collection The Luxor, being the first!

The Amory, with little decoration is all about the cut and the sumptuous swathes of material…..

Or for something strapless and a little more elaborate and glitzy, The London……

Or for a little bit of both The Odetta……

I think it’s fair to say any one of Johanna Johnson dresses from the Luxor collection would be perfect –  and don’t forget JJ is now available on line from her e-boutique.

And when I was looking for an art deco inspired gown back home in the UK, who should I turn to but of course Jenny Packham with her deliciously Deco dresses, like The Imari……

Or The halterneck Luna…..

How gorgeous does that headband look with Luna?? It just finishes off the look. I adore Jenny Packham Accessories!

The fabulous Karen Willis Holmes also has a couple of Art Deco inspired designs in her collection, including the lovely Samantha with its belted waist……

And the shimmering, drop waisted Keisha……

Baz Luhrman’s film can’t be released quickly enough for me 🙂
