Happy International Chocolate Day! No, no, I haven’t just made that up, I promise. The 13th of September is International Chocolate Day, and as an utter chocoholic I couldn’t possibly let the day pass without celebrating it, in a wedding way of course. And what could be a more fitting way to salute such a day, than by sharing 20 of the most delectable, decadent and darn right delicious chocolate wedding cakes you ever will see!……
Oh, plus, 10 things I discovered whilst writing the post – it seems Chocolate isn’t just yummy, it’s nigh on healthy and has quite the history!
1~ The word chocolate comes from “Xocolatl,” the Aztec word that means “bitter water.”
2 ~ The smell of chocolate increases theta brain waves, which triggers relaxation (yep, it’s a scientific fact that chocolate makes you feel better!)
3 ~ The word chocolate was first recorded in English in 1604, though the first chocolate bar wasn’t invented until 200 years later by J.S. Fry’s of Bristol.
4 ~ Chocolate magnate, Milton Hershey, canceled his reservations for the Titanic due to last minute business matters.
Cake ~ Elizabeth’s Cake Emporium
5 ~ White Chocolate (which used to be my favourite) isn’t technically Chocolate at all?! It’s faux chocolate as it contains no cocoa solids or cocoa liquor.
6 ~ The inventor of the Chocolate Chip Cookie sold the idea to Nestle in return for a lifetime supply of chocolate – a wise woman indeed!
7 ~ M&Ms were created in 1941 as a means for soldiers to enjoy chocolate without it melting.
Cake ~ Wild Orchid Baking
8 ~ The World’s Largest Chocolate Bar Weighed 5,792 kg (12,770 lb)….that might last me longer than a day!
9 ~ It is said that eating dark chocolate every day reduces the risk of heart disease by one third! (nope I didn’t just make that up either!)
And, because you can’t beat a bit of Miss Hepburn…..
Oh Audrey, just when I thought I couldn’t love you any more!
10 ~ Apparently, more than 50 percent of adults prefer chocolate to any other flavor – now if that isn’t a good enough reason to make your Wedding Cake a chocolate one, I don’t know what is!
So, happy International Chocolate Day lovelies!…Right, I’m off to open a bar myself, to satisfy my chocolate cravings, after looking at all of these cakes!
